That the site of a queer and trans riot against police brutality is now a private prison disguised as an apartment building marks the presence of the same carceral power manifested in different ways over time.

In this project, funded by the Graham Foundation grant for individuals, we are continuing the collective effort that challenges established power structures, with the building at Turk and Taylor serving as our symbol for deep transformation.

Our goal is to employ our collective imagination and creativity in a way that disrupts and reconfigures oppressive societal frameworks. We are drawing inspiration from historical protest actions such as the "Levitation of a Pentagon” in the 1970s, an event that illustrated the power of imagination to redefine what is possible. Using our collective creativity and unique skills each of us brings, we aim to contribute to the building's vibrant history of queer resistance.
