QTBIPOC Community Organizer for TurkxTaylor Initiative
About the TurkxTaylor Initiative
The TurkxTaylor Initiative (TxT) is an ad hoc collective dedicated to liberating and re-envisioning the historic site of the 1966 Compton’s Cafeteria riot at the intersection of Turk and Taylor Streets in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. This year, we’re focusing on concrete steps to decarcerate the building from its current owner, GEO Group, a private transnational prison corporation. Our grassroots campaign will involve outreach, community meetings, and collaborative envisioning of the building’s future with key organizations and individuals.
Our vision is to transform this site into an un-cooptable collectively-owned space that honors its queer and trans anti-carceral legacy. We aim to foster deep and meaningful dialogues around ecological justice, decolonization, anti-racism, and anti-capitalism - recognizing that liberation is intertwined.
Position Summary
We are looking for a part-time Community Organizer to join our non-hierarchical team. This role will involve facilitating internal communication, managing finances, and ensuring seamless coordination among various projects within the TurkxTaylor Initiative. The Community Organizer will work alongside our extended coalition, coordinating meetings and working groups focussed on Legislative, Outreach, Media, and Funding efforts. The ideal candidate has experience in grassroots organizing, takes initiative and is comfortable working independently, is highly organized and detail-oriented, and is passionate about QTBIPOC communities and their liberation efforts.
